The inaugural Open was held on Sunday, August 28, 2005 on the Senator Course, Capital Hill, Prattville.  Early favorites Chad Gibbs and Jeremy Burns shot themseleves out of contention with triple bogies on the opening holes.  Chris Harrison led early, but folded on the back nine, leaving Kevin Burson and Nick Wintermantel at the top.  Burson, riding a wave of emotion from an incredible 275 yard 3 wood after a topped drive, played solid on the back nine, and came to 18 tied with the clubhouse leader Wintermantel.  Burson bombed a drive, knocked a wedge to 5 feet, and calmly drained the putt, thus becoming Champion Golfer of the Year 2005.
