| The second annual Open Championship was held at Royal Farmlinks, Sylacauga, on Sunday August 13, 2006. It was the first 36-hole event in Two Majors History. In round one Nick Wintermantel, Kevin Carden, and Chris Harrison become the first men in history to break 80 in a Two Majors Event. After round one only six shots seperated seven golfers, with Wintermantel holding a two shot lead over Harrison and Carden, and a five shot lead over Chad Gibbs. Charles Marsh missed a 3-foot putt on 18 to miss playing in the final group by one stroke. Players Champion, Jeremy Burns also carded a first round 83. In the second round Gibbs caught fire, recording two birdies and an eagle on the front nine, pulling him within one shot of Wintermantel with nine to play. But Wintermnatel righted the ship, and came to the 18th with a two shot lead over both Harrison and Gibbs. Harrison made birdie to pull within one, but Wintermantel's par was enough to secure the Kettle, and the title of Champion Golfer of the Year 2006. First Amatuer went to Kevin Carden, who claims his father-in-law played college football. | |||||||||
