| The third annual Open Championship was played at Royal Farmlinks, on Sunday, August 19, 2008. It was a 36-hole event, and with 27 golfers, the largest field in Two Majors history to date. Five men broke 80 in round one, including Charles Marsh, Chad Gibbs, Jonathan Hollingsworth, and Keat Litton. But it was Nick Wintermantel's stunning 73 that had his competitors cursing him at lunch. During the second round, Gibbs made his patented run at Wintermantel, chipping in for birdie on the 9th hole to pull within one shot. But a lost ball on sixteen, followed by a miracle up and down by Wintermantel on seventeen, ended Gibbs chances. A routine par on the last and Nick Wintermantel was Champion Golfer of the Year 2007, the first two-time major winner in Two Majors history. First amatuer went to Gary Rutledge, who claims to have played college football. | |||||||||
