| The 2008 Players Championship took place on April 19th, on the Legislator Course, at Capitol Hill, Prattville. The Two Majors field faced perhaps their toughest test of golf yet, as Mother Nature and the Greens Keeper teamed up to make conditions almost impossible. And when the wind died down, hot air from the mouths of angry marshalls kept the golfers on their toes. Billy Wilson parred the first hole, and briefly led the tournament, but a nine on the par four second dashed his hopes. First time competitors Kyle Powell, Sam Allison, and Mark Thorton all played well, but eventually succumbed to major championship pressure. Past Champion Jeremy Burns shot 44 on the front nine, but was done in by Swamp Corner, as was most of the field. Rodney Miller and Chris Harrison wore white pants. Through sixteen holes the only golfer to not wilt under the bright lights of championship golf was Kevin Carden, but a skulled chipshot left KC facing a must up and down to keep defending champion Chad Gibbs from drawing even. Carden calmly stepped up to his ball, and holed out the chip shot, throwing daggers into Gibbs' chances of a repeat. A routine par on the 18th and Kevin Carden captured his first major championship. Low Amateur went once again to Darryl Harrison, who turned profesional after the tournament. | |||||||||
